Hurricanes? Go AWAY!

My recent annual road trip took me from Raleigh, North Carolina to the Poconos of Pennsylvania, through the Delaware Water Gap, and finally to New Hampshire. This part of our 1,890 mile 9 day trip was pretty uneventful. We volunteered at the NH Highland Games surrounded by kilts. Yum!

The trip home was a bit different. We stopped in Bridgeport, Connecticut for the night, then boarded the 9 a.m. ferry that took us to Port Jefferson, on Long Island. We saved about 100 miles of driving near New York City. However, the black clouds of Hurricane

Jose followed us. You could see them off the eastern tip of Long Island, making the ferry ride across the Long Island Sound choppy.

Visiting family, the deluge reached us, but dissipated long enough for me to take photos of the home in Huntington I grew up in, and the cemetery where my maternal grandmother is buried.

While having lunch, the rain reappeared, then we outran it by driving through Brooklyn, Staten Island, and into New Jersey. I feel for the people hit hard by Harvey, Jose, and Maria.

I hope these photos bring smiles to your faces…
