Time to Start a New Story by Dawn Marie Hamilton

It’s time to start a new story. So many possibilities.

So what am I working on?

Two stories for the Highland Gardens time travel romance series are in the works. One a full-length novel. Just His Fae Kiss will be Caitrina and Douglas’s story. And the other a novella. Just Within a Highland Mist is Emily and Gregor’s story.

Portrait of a smiling young woman in woodland

Inspiration for Emily in Just Within a Highland Mist.

We met Emily near the end of the first book of the series, Just Beyond the Garden Gate. She was working at the Whispering Pines Inn as a hostess and her boyfriend tended bar in the lounge. Well, since then, they became engaged. Unfortunately, her fiancé was murdered.

Gregor is a new character to the series. He fostered at Castle Lachlan in his youth and has returned.

Here is the working blurb. It is unedited and could change before the tale is complete.

Just Within a Highland Mist:

Gregor MacLachlan returns to Castle Lachlan where he fostered as a green lad, ignoring rumors of fae activity. As a warrior with his cousin’s elite private guard, he hopes to prove to the clan he’s matured and has worth. A trio of pesky pixies have other plans for his heart. While hunting, a wayward shot from his bow nearly hits a strange lass who appears as if by magic.

Emily Smith follows one of the lads within her care onto a forbidden mound and wakes in a strange bed, in a place and time not her own. Can she release guilt over the tragic murder of her fiancé and find love in the arms of the dark-eyed stranger who becomes her champion?

I’m working on the cover and hope to share it soon.

New Highlander Time Travel Release: Just Wait For Me by Dawn Marie Hamilton

Black Friesian Unicorn

I’m very excited to announce the release of the most recent book in the Highland Gardens time travel series—Just Wait For Me. This book is the third novel in the Highland Gardens series and the fourth story rife with faeries and brownies and other fae creatures causing mischief. One such individual is the enigmatic auburn-haired Caitrina—a halfling faerie challenged by the Queen of the Fae to complete three unlikely matches uniting mortal couples separated by the veil of time. During one scene in Just Wait For Me, she glimpses something totally unexpected on a ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

Unicorn. Is the magnificent beast real or illusion?

About Just Wait For Me

The third match in the Fae Queen’s challenge is in play. Will fae magic change Stephen and Jillian’s destiny?

In the chaotic aftermath of the battle of Flodden, an injured Highland warrior makes a vow to a twenty-first century lass cast back in time by a meddling, matchmaking faerie. Stephen MacEwen promises to find a way to send her forward to her own time. But is that an oath he’ll want to keep after finding love in Jillian O’Donnell’s arms? And after saving Stephen’s life, will Jillian want to go?

No matter what the lovers decide, Stephen’s wife—a woman who acquired the title through deceit—and an old enemy attempt to destroy the couple’s chance for happiness. Only with the help of Fae allies can Stephen and Jillian overcome and earn their reward—everlasting love.

Sneak Peek

The peregrine falcon rose on thermals and soared out of sight. Caitrina crossed her arms in a self-hug, already feeling the loss. ’Twas best he fly wild and free until spring when he would head for northern climes. She was needed in Scotland past.

As she wandered toward the trail heading down the mountain, alarm hummed over her skin. Someone watched. Unnerved, she thought to vanish, but then she wouldn’t learn who or what flaunted such intent interest. Trying to appear nonchalant, she scanned the meadow, the rocks, the forest edge, and froze in awe. What the…

She closed a gaping mouth and stared.

The silky black stallion reared up on hind legs then galloped away, disappearing into the forest, though not before Caitrina glimpsed the single horn protruding magnificently from the center of the animal’s broad forehead. Couldn’t be. Wasn’t possible. Unicorns only existed in Tir-nan-Og. Faerieland. Land o’ heart’s desire. There were rumors, of course. Stories made up by the local storyteller, Mr. MacNaughton, more than likely. Faerie tales meant to amuse children.

Caitrina rubbed tired eyes, feeling deflated. Dealing with the queen’s matchmaking challenge made her daft. Made her see things that didn’t exist. She needed to complete this match and win the game. If only Jillian and Stephen would cooperate.

A large hand clamping on her shoulder made her jump. As she partially faded into the vanishing, a unique scent of earth and wind and animal musk invaded her nostrils. Ah. Said hand belonged to Douglas, the proprietor of the Celtic Image shop in the Village of Anderson Creek, and her sometimes lover. The grip tightened on her shoulder, and she jerked back to solid form. She didn’t dare bring him along to the past, which would have happened if he touched her.

It has been hot, hot, hot where I live. The other evening around 6 o’clock, we crossed the Potomac River near Dahlgren , VA. It was 101 degrees at the highest point on the bridge. So, to cool down, I’m thinking of snow and Christmas. Christmas in July. And, a Christmas in July Sale.

Can a determined brownie craft a perfect match in time for Christmas?

When the Chief of Clan MacLachlan travels to the stronghold of his feuding neighbors to fetch his betrothed, she is gone. A year later, she is still missing. Making life more vexing, a band of reivers are stealing clan cattle, leaving behind destruction. Archibald MacLachlan determines to capture them and administer harsh punishment.

Though once in love with the man, Isobell Lamont refuses to wed her clan’s enemy. After running away, she joins the band of reivers set on revenge.

Can Archibald forgive the raven-haired beauty? Will a journey through time bring them together for a Highland Christmas?

A snowy excerpt:

“Can we make snow angels?” Scott hollered over bantering voices.

“Yes, please,” Young Iain begged, too.

Laurie urged the lads into jackets and the entire family trudged out into the snowy garden. Patrick flicked a switch. Light illuminated the area, making the snow sparkle. The lads fell onto their backs in the snow, waving their arms and legs. The imprints left behind were the images of angels. Laurie made a large one. Patrick’s even larger.

If a once powerful warrior could display a playful side so could she. Isobell dropped onto her back to make an angel of her own. To her utter surprise, Archie threw off his plaide and plopped beside her in naught but his trews and leine. As they spread their arms to make angel wings their fingers touched. Their gazes met. A thrill shot through her.

Archie’s eyes flared. He must have felt it, too.

She couldn’t let the moment pass without making one last memory with him. Isobell squeezed his fingers. “Come with me. I ken a special place.”

“Your recovery has been truly miraculous,” she said. “I’m becoming a believer in your fae healing magic.”

His quick grin was electric, and it sent a shiver of awareness through her body, culminating in the clenching of her sex. She stepped close to Stephen, placed a palm on his bare chest. The children were off to who knew where, and she was determined to take advantage of their absence. Jillian rolled onto the balls of her feet and planted a kiss on Stephen’s lips.

He stiffened, but then got with the program. The sword dropped with a clatter to the floor and his arms came around her in a crushing embrace. He repositioned his head and sought her tongue. The heady sensation curled her toes. She clutched his firm ass. God, he tasted good from the medicinal herbs the women made him eat. When the kiss ended they pressed their foreheads together and just breathed.

“Ach, lass, you make me want things I must not have.”

“What do you mean?” She leaned away. “I know we haven’t known each other long, but sometimes it only takes a moment to feel an undeniable attraction that might blossom into more. I feel that with you.”

He ran a hand through his overlong blond hair. “You are so sweet…”

“But…”

He opened his mouth, though before he provided an explanation a crashing noise came from the entrance. Stephen dove for the sword, and she swirled to face the opening.

Happy Spring! And, a Sneak Peek: Just Wait For Me

DSCF0075

Happy Spring!

Spring has finally sprung in my neighborhood, and I’m crazy busy working on my next book. In the meantime, more birds are visiting our feeders and a bluebird couple has moved into the bluebird house on our fence. Watching them is a wonderful diversion during breaks.

Just Wait For Me

Coming Summer 2015

Since I’m working on JUST WAIT FOR ME, the third full-length novel in the Highland Gardens series, I thought I might share the opening lines (unedited) from the prologue…

9 September, 1513
Near the village of Branxton

The king is dead.

Anguish tore from her halfling soul with a fae scream that reverberated over the field of devastation like rolling thunder. Silence ensued. Men frozen in fear.

Caitrina dropped to her knees beside the redheaded warrior and ran gentle fingers along the bloodied curve of his handsome face. Damn Oonagh! Damn the fae queen! She’d refused to allow Caitrina to intervene in the politics of the mortals and prevent this tragedy.

Now, the king lay dead, fatally wounded by an arrow and a bill. Be damned the English and their nasty weapon—the bill, a staff mounted with hooked chopping blade and pointed projections. The Scots hadn’t stood a chance against the onslaught in this slippery, hilly terrain with their cumbersome pikes.

Heart broken, she cradled the man to her breast. Such greatness lost. Tears spilled unchecked onto his precious face. Too late. Even the magic tears of a Sithichean princess couldn’t revive the king.

“Caitrina! Let us be away from here.” The brùnaidh, the Maclachlan Clan brownie, fussed at her back. “We must remove Stephen from the field before the English learn he lives and plunge a bill into his chest.”

She ignored the wee man. How would the Scots forge forward without their beloved king—with only a bairn and the sister of the despised English monarch to guide them?

New Release – Aerial Magic by Caryn Moya Block

It’s Here! Aerial Magic

by Caryn Moya Block

I had so much fun writing this book and working with my editor to make it the best version it could be. My other series of books is set in contemporary Earth, except for adding some well hidden paranormal beings and talents. This series begins that way with Destined Magic and then the magic begins. Each book in the series will take the heroes on an adventure into a different world.  I find world building exhilarating. I love coming up with different cultures and belief systems. In Aerial Magic you get to enter the world of the Fae, a beautiful and deadly place. Enjoy!

Book Two of the Witch Guardian Romance Series

Elise Delaire, the Guardian healer, goes to the bonding ceremony of her best friend. While there, Mabel Avery, the commander of the Guardians, introduces her to Curtis Brant. But when Elise shakes Brant’s hand, she realizes that not only is this man not who he says he is, he is also her Destined One.

Owen Avery is on a mission from the queen of the Fae. Apprehend the rogue Fae who is now being called the Red Wizard. Everything is going according to plan until he shakes hands with the delectable Elise. Not only can she see through his disguise, but her touch causes his magic house tattoo to take on color, proving that she is his Destined One. Is he willing to give up his immortality and his home, the land of the Fae, to claim her?

This is book two in the Witch Guardian Romance Series. To enjoy this book to the fullest, it is suggested that you read the series in order, starting with “Destined Magic”.

Sneak Peak #1:

As their hands touched, sparks shot from their fingertips. A shock of electricity traveled up her arm and into her heart. The man in front of her wavered, growing taller. His hair turned white blond and fell to his shoulders. The thick glasses disappeared and his eyes deepened in color to emerald. The bone structure in his face became more angular and his ears appeared to grow pointed tips. A look of shock crossed his features.

Sneak Peek#2:

Trumpets blared and a woman wearing a crystal studded emerald dress and tall silver crown entered, followed by several more guards. Pearls lay draped in her long white blond hair.

“At last, Owen has sent Rhaim home. Guards take my nephew to the dungeon until I decide his fate. Now, what have we here, and where is Owen?” the woman asked. Two men wearing blue and gold uniforms dragged the Red Wizard from the room.

Elise tried to sit up the rest of the way, and moaned when her brain threatened to burst. “Owen is at the Red Wizard’s compound. I used the bracelet port key,” Elise said, holding onto her head, the sound of her own voice painful to her ears.

“Who might you be?” the woman asked. This must be the Queen of the Fae who Owen mentioned.

“I’m Elise Delaire, Owen’s Destined One. I’m a Guardian.”

“Guards, take this human out and kill her,” the woman said.

Sneak Peek#3:

“Uh, uh, uh. None of that,” Owen said, taking her hand from his body and pulling it to the headboard. “You are mine, little healer, all mine. Wood so hard, mold and carve, bracelet wrists to hold and guard.”

The wood of the headboard stretched and opened to encase Elise’s wrists. “Hey, no fair,” Elise complained, tugging experimentally at the bonds. They held tight.
